That is interesting.
This week I had the opportunity to spend a significant amount of time with another local family that home schools. It is always interesting to learn more about families who make similar educational choices. As much as I enjoyed this time I came away feeling a little sad for them. The majority of our conversation was not about actually living life but rather about all of the stuff they have. They have been doing a number of renovations to their home including adding home theater seating and a jacuzzi. The children listed countless new toys they have been given such as an video game systems and dirt bikes. It was a little hard for me to know how to respond because I just don't think the same way about owning stuff anymore. I can understand how being able to get those things could make you happy but it isn't how we look at life. I can't say that I think kids need every video game system that hits the market. Do you really need a Wii, XBox, PSP, and Nintendo DS to be happy? It almost sounds like the parents use these gadgets as baby sitters rather than interacting with their kids.
