Putting my finger on it...
I home school for a number of reasons. It is hard to put a finger on just one but primarily it is because I lost faith in our public school system to watch out for the educational needs of my son. I realized that schools are so focused on behaviors and maintaining control that there is very little room to see each student for who they are and what they are capable of. I realize that every (responsible) parent wants their child to be given the best education possible. For most children school gives them the education they need to go forward in life. For my child all I could see was him falling through the cracks. The system focused on what he couldn't do and couldn't see what he could do or had the potential to do. I began to see him as desperately clinging to the side hoping for a lifeline that no one was throwing. I decided that I had to throw him that lifeline and it has been a lifesaver.
