Addiction impacts everyone...

This weekend we spent time with some friends of ours that we haven't seen in quite a while. It is always fun catching up with them because they are just a bunch of fun to be around. I was really surprised to find out that someone in their immediate family had spent time in rehab. This came as a surprise because I just couldn't imagine anyone their family ever needing this type of service. I suppose this belief stems from the shared value system about healthy eating and living that our families share.

The reality is that addiction hits more families than most people realize. The need for detox centers is not going away any time soon. The rates of additions in the USA are continuing to rise year after year. Estimates suggest that possibly as many as 6 million children, in this country, have at least one parent that is addicted to drugs. When you consider that the illegal use of prescription drugs has potential risen by as much as 500 percent since around 1990 this is not surprising. Addiction is impacting families on every socioeconomic level of our nation. It really shouldn't surprise us to know that those around us might be dealing with addiction issues in their immediate families.
