Goals.

I love to hear the different goals that people have in their lives. Some of my friends have goals that are grand like building a new home or traveling to distant places. Other people want something more challenging like running a marathon or loosing a bunch of weight. Still other people wants more sustainable things like a flock of chickens or a backyard orchard. Listening to people tell you about their goals can tell you a great deal about where they are in their lives and what they value. My friends who set goals for owning or obtaining things are in a very different place in life than those that want chickens and fruit trees. As I grow closer to having my own dreams of chickens and fruit trees I find it harder to ever envision myself wanting new and fancy stuff. I take more joy in teaching my children a life skill than I do in owning a new gadget or taking a big trip.
