Everyone seems to have a different idea of how to build links. Some say buy them others say not to do this. Some say reciprocal is not good and yet more say this is good. I don't really know. This is one take on this discussion:
Try not to focus on one link building plan ...
Everybody does not read articles, or forums for that matter. Diversify your links so that if one type is devalued your site does not get killed.
Use directories, press releases, articles, reciprocal links, link bait, forum sigs, blogs, and just about any other method to get links that you can think about.
It is really getting to the point where huge numbers of links are required to rank for even non-competitive terms.
