Cutting electric bills...

At the beginning of the year the rate caps on electric prices in our state expired. We were forewarned that this would happen and were not taken by surprise when our bills jumped significantly. In the months prior to the expiration of these caps we took many steps to lower our electric bills. I made sure to change the power saving settings on our pc desktops and also hook them up to smart strips. We also swapped all of our incandescent light bulbs for CFL light bulbs. The children have been taught to turn off and unplug anything they aren't using in order to prevent phantom drainage of electric. Our future plans are to get rid of our old refrigerator and replace it with an energy efficient model. I would love to install solar panels on our roof but I am not convinced we would see enough return for the investment at this point in time.
