Smelly presents.

We have a family friend who showers our children with gifts at Christmas. We truly appreciate his generosity and love that he cares so deeply for our kids. I just wish the man would take up using electronic cigarettes or quit smoking. He is an incredibly heavy smoker. This makes everything that enters or exits his home stink with cigarette smoke. Some of his gifts are so smelly that I have to banish them to the porch for a while until they smell better. Clothing I can at least wash but some presents are just impossible to get the smell out of. I suppose if you are a smoker this doesn't sound like a big deal but to people who aren't use to this the smell can be pretty intense. I have to caution my children not to make a comment about the gifts or the boxes when opening them because this has happened in the past. My youngest son opened a present containing a sweatshirt last year and immediately said "Mommy it is smelly". Not an experience I want to repeat.
