Derby time.

This week is a big week for our older son. He will be participating the Pinewood Derby held by his scout troop. Over the years he has participated in this event a couple of times and has always had a good time. Building the car is always a good bonding event for my husband and son. No matter how the car performs they never fail to take pride in the end product. I will admit that I would love see the judges in these events include and interview portion for the contestants. The reason I say this is because it is so very clear that a large percentage of the cars that are entered have been entirely built by adults as opposed to a child leading the project. Interviewing the children would shed a very clear light on exactly how big of a role the child had in constructing the car. There are very few kids under the age of 11 who are accomplished liars and would likely say flat out who really built their car. The derby would truly be interesting if this were the case and a bit more fair to the kids who play by the rules.
