A happy life...
I have big plans for our garden next year and all the food I hope to grow. This is year was such a success that it is hard not to get excited about the direction our lives are heading and the things we are accomplishing. It is cool to be able to tell people I haven't had to buy anything other than milk from the store in the last month. I love knowing that I won't need wrinkle cream because I have spent too many sleepless nights worrying about how to get the bills paid. Living sustainably requires effort, planning, and discipline. You have to be willing to spend time in the kitchen, garden, and wherever working on projects. If we want coffee in the morning we have to roast coffee beans. In order to have bread for lunch I need to bake it. Growing vegetables means finding a way to preserve the harvest. Virtually every meal we eat is homemade and a slow process. I love it. It isn't for everyone but it is right for us. Next year I hope to double what we grow ourselves and cut in half what we have to buy from local farmers. I can only imagine what our food bill will be like when that happens.
