Old movies and young kids.

We went without television for about 5 years straight. A year and a half ago I got a deal on an 18 month subscription to satellite television. Over about the last six month it has become clear that we just need to get rid of the satellite altogether. My children mostly watch videos on the dvd player or shows on the internet. They rarely want to watch the cartoons on the channels that we get. Today the movie they have most wanted to watch is "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang". The fascination with the movie I do not understand but they both enjoy it infinitely. The movie lasts about 3 hours which in my opinion is 2 hours too long but it makes them happy. I am counting the weeks until our contract is up and I can cancel. The shows on television just make the kids want things they don't need and think about stuff that they don't need to be thinking about. As silly and pointless as old movies are they offer something that is missing in our world today. Happy and pointless and fun.
