Soap making...

The newest in my line of projects I have decided is going to be making homemade soap. I have thought for a long time about whether or not I want to invest the time and money in this type of project. To be honest the thing that has kept me away from trying this is that the thought of using lye is somewhat scary. After doing a great deal of reading and found out that all soap contains lye. The use of lye can be dangerous but with caution making soap is a very doable project. I am now trying to decide what type of essential to use to scent the soap. I really love the smell of lavender and am thinking that it would be a nice scent for the entire family. I love the smell of it on my children and hopefully my husband won't mind it too much either. I suppose I could always make him some manly smelling soap. I just don't know what essential oil scent smells manly?
